It’s official: After a whirlwind summer of international competition, Deus Stanislaus ‘27 is a soccer champion.
It all began at the start of the summer when she began training as a member of Gotham FC, a pro soccer club, kicking off with two friendly competitions. Not only did she net two goals against Germany, but she also captained the team to victory over the Netherlands.
“It was my introduction to a pro training environment and an opportunity to sharpen my skillset,” she said.
After a brief respite, her team returned to competition in Seattle for the ECNL National Finals, emerging with a successful 4-0 record. Playing in 3 of the 4 games, she scored 4 goals, assisted 2, and scored the game-winner in the round of 16 to advance her team to the final 8 tournament in Richmond, VA, where her club team experienced its first loss in over two years, with Stanislaus scoring the lone goal.
She and her team then returned to international competition at Nike in Portland, OR.
“My club team competed against 6 of 11 other nations for the Nike Premier World Cup title,” said Stanislaus, who scored 3 goals in 5 of the games, including a game-winner in the quarter-finals against Mexico.
The team defeated Denmark, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Korea, and Japan to ultimately win the title. But that didn’t mean Stanislaus could slow down. From Portland, she reported directly to the U15 youth national team camp in Carson, CA, and then on to San Jose, Costa Rica, to compete in Concacaf, an international tournament made up of teams from Central and North America.
With a hat trick against Jamaica, a game-winning penalty kick in the penalty shootout in the semifinal against Canada, and an assist in the final match against Mexico, Stanislaus could finally celebrate.
“My U15 US National team came out on top winning the U15 Concacaf crown, defeating Jamaica, Costa Rica, Haiti, Canada, and Mexico,” she reported.
As the summer winds down, two things are clear: Stanislaus is a force to be reckoned with, and we can’t wait to watch her play for the Blue Devils this fall!
Update: Deus will take a hiatus from SCH to pursue soccer opportunities this year. We wish her all the best!
