Seven students are recognized as athletes of the week for the week ending May 9, 2021:
Upper School
Lucy Pearson '22 - lacrosse - led the team from her goalie position in a 19-7 win over Baldwin and an 8-9 loss to Penn Charter. Lucy stopped 9 shots in the 1st half alone of the Baldwin game and made 13 saves against Penn Charter in a wildly exciting and intense game. Coach Powell not only praised Lucy's strong performance on the field but her outstanding leadership skills. Devils are 5-6 in the highly competitive Inter-Ac.
Jon Bautista '21 - baseball - pitched 6 2/3 innings with 1 earned run in a 2-0 win over Haverford and was 5 for 8 for in two games with 6 RBIs, 1 home run and 2 doubles vs. Haverford and a 11-3 win over Germantown. Devils are 5-3 in the Inter-Ac.
Kamaha'o Bode '24 - softball - was 2 for 3 in an 8-9 win over Baldwin where she had a home run, 5 RBIs, and scored 3 times including the game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th. She was 2 for 4 in a 2-4 loss to Penn Charter and made 5 catches in centerfield. Coach Mill speaks to the tremendous energy and enthusiasm she brings to every practice and game. Middle School
Alex Brown '26 - baseball - in a game vs. Germantown, he was 2 for 2 with a home run, stolen base, 3 RBIs, and pitched 2 scoreless innings.
Ava Detweiler '25 - lacrosse - led all scorers with 11 goals in 3 contests. Traditionally a defensive player, she has excelled in her first season playing midfield. Additionally, Ava has been a co-captain and vocal leader on the team.
Cole Carberry '26 - lacrosse - had 10 goals and 5 assists in 2 games this week. Cole has been a leader on and off the field for the team this season.
Zarin DeVeaux '25 - softball - did a great job pitching in relief, getting the ball over the plate so her fielders could make plays. She also had key plays at shortstop and has worked hard at being a great example for the younger players.
