Two SCH seniors were among the 13 recipients of the prestigious Inter-Academic Athletic League Directors of Athletics awards. The AD’s Award is presented annually to select multi-sport varsity athletes who, according to the According to the Inter-Ac, have “exemplified dedication to their team and school.” They are also considered to be “outstanding representatives of the Inter-Ac League in sportsmanship and leadership.”
This year, Julia Thomson, girls soccer captain and a member of the basketball and track & field teams; and Andrew Wood, captain of the indoor and outdoor track & field teams, received the Inter-Ac’s most distinguished award.
“I am honored to be recognized for my hard work in athletics that I have displayed over my four years at SCH. Being a multi-sport athlete at SCH has helped me foster discipline, integrity, and determination which I translate outside of athletics,” said Thomson.
Wood said he was grateful to his coaches, trainers, teammates, teachers, mentors, friends, and family for their support over the years. “Since my arrival, the SCH community has expanded my desire to learn academically, athletically, and socially. It has provided me with the space to do great work and love what I do.”
Wood and Thomson’s coaches praised them for their leadership and level of commitment and play.
“Julia exemplifies the culture of our program. She's driven, hardworking, competitive, and a selfless teammate,” said Bartley Jeannoute, coach of girls basketball.
Paul Hines, coach of indoor and outdoor track, said that Wood not only led the team through tough workouts, he did so with poise. “Andrew is a quiet leader that is respected by his teammates and coaches for his intensity, tangible results, and positive attitude,” added Hines.
