SCH Football Defeats Episcopal 23-16

In a back and forth contest, the Blue Devils came out on top of Episcopal: 23-16.

On a cold but beautiful night, the Blue Devils came ready to play as they jumped on Episcopal early 15-3, went down 16-15 in the 3rd quarter, but came roaring back to win 23-16. SCH was the "home" team as coronavirus restrictions in Philadelphia would not allow a football game to be played in Chestnut Hill.

EA went up 3-0 only to see SCH tie it 3-3 on a 25-yard field goal by Brian Henesey with 11:00 left in the 2nd quarter. AJ Graham ended up having a great day going 6/11 for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 46 yards on 15 carries. Graham threw a jump ball to Ivan Thorpe who timed it up perfectly for the catch and made a nice dodge as he went 52 yards for six. The extra point was muffed on the snap to put the score SCH 9 - EA 3.

EA then drove the length of the field and was looking like they might score when Thorpe intercepted a pass and sprinted untouched 86 yards down the sideline for another touchdown. The 2-point try was unsuccessful to put the score SCH 15 - EA 3 at halftime.

EA came out fired up and went up 16-15 with 3:39 left in the 3rd. The Blue Devils showed true grit as they drove 75 yards on the back of 2 Graham-to-Bobby-Markey passes with a 3rd ending up good for a touchdown. Markey finished the day catching 4 passes for 63 yards. Falling backward, Graham threw a dime to Carnell Kemp for the 2-point conversion and the Devils were back on top 23-16.

Great clock management by Graham and Coach Knox drained time with the Blue Devils in EA territory to secure the win.

Luke Sonnet was a work horse rushing 17 times for 67 yards. Markey also ran for 13.

Brian Henesey led the defense with 8 tackles, followed by RJ Moore who had 7, and a host of Devils having 4 and 3 tackles. The offensive line of Grant Guzik, Pat Ferns, Joe Cassidy, Matt Elliott, and Tristan Holmbeck did a fantastic job giving Graham time and opening holes. Aiden Dooley, Moore, and Kemp did a nice job at tight ends.

Congrats to the coaches and players for a great win!
