Homecoming 2021 was a great weekend on the fields and courts and it was amazing to see our Blue Devil community back together again to celebrate SCH!
On Friday, Girls’ Tennis took on league rival Penn Charter and won, 4-3! Ameara Smith ‘24 clinched the team win with her victory at #3 singles. JV Tennis also brought home the Inter-Ac win vs PC 6-1. Saturday’s matches against Hill had exactly the same team scores for wins by the Blue Devils, but this time Emma Bradbury ‘23 proved to be the deciding factor with her win at #1 singles.
Girls’ Varsity and JV Soccer teams continue to dominate the field of play with 2 convincing wins both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s varsity game vs Penn Charter ended in a 5-0 shutout with a great defensive effort by the back line and goalkeeper Ellie Stratz '23. Lisa McIntyre ‘23 and Maya McDermott ‘22 paced the offensive play with two goals apiece, while Abby Fitzmaurice ‘23 chipped in one. The JV team was also victorious, with a 4-0 win against PC on Friday and a 7-0 win on Saturday! In the varsity match up with Hill on Saturday the Devils came out on top with a score of 6-0, with Stratz and Gracyn Torchiana ‘25 recording the shutout. Bella Brown ‘23 led the offensive charge with 2 goals, and Lauren Sullivan ‘22 had 2 assists.
Boys’ Soccer traveled to Albany for the NXT LVL Invitational, a two-day showcase with many college coaches in attendance. While the Devils did not come out on top during their two contests versus Erie Cathedral (0-2) and Shenendehowa (0-1), the young squad gained a lot of experience and made great memories off of the field. JV soccer battled to a 1-1 tie on Saturday vs Hill, with a score by Charlie Gerlach and tough play by goalkeeper Connor Brown.
Field Hockey added two wins to their record on Friday and Saturday, 2-0 vs PC and 3-0 vs Westtown School, respectively. Hannah Pierce ‘22 and Devyn Conlan ‘25 paced the scoring for the Blue Devils, and Colleen Conlan ‘25 recorded the shutout in goal!
Boys' and Girls' Cross Country traveled to the George School Invitational on Saturday morning and had good performances by Hans Bode '23 and Veronica Gula '24 to pace the Blue Devils. Several runners had personal records and are working hard to continue to improve in each race!
Varsity Football had a tough loss to a gritty Hill squad on Saturday, 25-31. The two teams were tied up 14-14 at the half, but Hill pushed ahead and the Devils couldn’t make up the difference in the time left. QB Aidan Dooley ‘22 connected with Tyler Roberts ‘24 for two touchdowns, while Tommy Shelinsky ‘22 scored one. The Devils have a bye week and are looking forward to a Friday match up with Capital Harlem Prep on October 8.
Volleyball had two close league matches on Friday and Saturday against GA and AIS, dropping both 0-3. Jamie Ehnow ‘23, Macy Moderski ‘25 and Maddi Callas ‘22 gave solid efforts each day for varsity. JV was able to beat GA on Friday 2-1 but the score reversed on Saturday vs AIS. Ella Mahoney ‘24, Zoe DelGrande ‘24 and Nadia Stockman ‘25 led the way for the JV squad.
