Athletes of the Week Ending 4/22

The following students have been named Athletes of the Week ending 4/22:

Andrew Blum '25 - Tennis - Playing No. 1 singles in the Inter-Ac is an incredibly challenging position to hold. Every match is against one of the top players in the Philadelphia region and earning a win is extremely difficult. Andrew has continued to stay positive, put in a great deal of hard work, and really displays the definition of persistence every day. He was able to pick up a decisive first singles win over league rival Penn Charter, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Congratulations to Andrew for continuing to battle and putting in the work to improve!

Hayes Schreiner '24 - Lacrosse - Hayes, a Penn State commit, had an impressive 15 saves vs Haverford and 16 saves vs Episcopal during last week’s varsity Inter-Ac battles. He has been a stalwart in goal and has a great vocal presence, leading the defense. Keep up the hard work, Hayes!

Sam Tonkon '25 - Tennis -  Sam has exemplified leadership, a positive attitude, and great sportsmanship for the JV tennis team this year. We appreciate his strong work ethic every day in practice and commend him for his continued improvement this season. Way to go, Sam!

Sidney Smith '27 - Track and Field - Getting back on the track after an injury is never easy, but Sidney did a great job trying the hurdles for the first time and getting a PR in the 100m for the MS team! We are excited to see her race at Penn Relays this Thursday!

Mike Iacovelli '27 - Baseball - Mike threw a no-no through 5 innings in a dramatic 4-2 home win over Malvern last Tuesday! He was an absolute warrior while battling the opposing pitcher in a scoreless game until the bottom of the 5th when the Devils scored 4 runs to create enough separation. On the season, Mike is batting .500 with a .643 OBP from the leadoff spot. Clearly, he has emerged as a leader of the MS varsity team!

Charlotte Brown '28 - Lacrosse - Charlotte scored a combined 6 goals and secured 6 draw controls in last week’s varsity games. Her defense was instrumental in causing several turnovers for the team. Great job, Charlotte!

Toni Chang '27 - Softball - The team had a very tough 6-5 win against a formidable EA squad last week and Toni’s hitting and fielding were a big part of that win. Toni had a stellar game with 2 key hits that brought in 3 runs and also 4 amazing plays at shortstop to secure the very close win. Toni is always a positive and enthusiastic influence, and that enthusiasm carried over into a huge win for the softball team last week! Keep up that positivity and hard work, Toni!
