The following students have been named Athletes of the Week ending 1/11:
Teddy Giannone ‘27 - Ice Hockey - Teddy has been one of the Blue Devils’ most versatile players this season, playing defense for the game vs Episcopal and then forward against ANC last week. He has a high hockey IQ and a matching work ethic that allows him to compete at an intense level at all times. Teddy is always asking for feedback to improve; he is highly coachable and is a great teammate. To top it off, he scored the winning goal in the final seconds of the team’s win vs Hill this week. Way to go, Teddy!
Nasir Yard ‘25 - Wrestling - Nas is off to a tremendous start to this season as we reach the halfway point with a record of 17-4, tying him with co-captain Sean Brett for the team leader in wins. He defeated his Haverford School opponent by major decision 13-3 and followed up his Friday night win with a trio of victories on Saturday to claim the 189lb title at the Church Farm Invitational. This is the 2nd tournament Nasir has won this season. Keep it up, Nas!
Girls 4x200m Relay - Indoor Track - The girls’ 4x200m relay finished in the top 10 at Friday’s meet at UPenn’s new Ott Center! Their time of 1:50.17 qualified them for the Meet of Champions, and they are now ranked 20th in PA. Lead-off runner Kennedy Hayward ‘25, who ran earlier in the evening placing 2nd in the 60m hurdles (U.S. #27), got the team off to a great start. From there, Mackenzie Hines ‘25 ran a very good split time before handing the baton to junior standout Marlee Howard, and lastly, team captain Jolie Kaoma ‘25 anchored the race and took the team across the finish line. Jolie also ran the individual 200m that night and qualified for the Meet of Champions. Great job girls—teamwork makes the dream work!
Lily McManus ‘28 - Squash - Lily showed great discipline and focus in her tactical play to control her entire varsity match against The Hill School last Saturday, contributing toward the team’s overall 5-2 win. Lily’s quiet intensity is much appreciated by the team and coaches, and she has a very bright future ahead for the Blue Devils! Keep working hard, Lily!
Boys Basketball Managers - Basketball - The boys’ varsity, JV, and 3rds managers are unbelievably valuable in the operations of the basketball team’s successful experience. Led by Aurie Brown (Day to Day Operations) and Nick Simon (Video Coordinator/Development), our team would not be 15-3 without this dynamic group of individuals. Thank you to Aurie, Nick, Aisling, AJ, Roman, Lila, Reece, Nael, Layla, Zarin, Izzie, and Kristyanne for your unique abilities and continued contributions to SCH basketball!
Regen Lytle ‘27 - Squash - Regen consistently brings an unmatched level of dedication and determination to every JV practice. His relentless work ethic and focus serve as an inspiration to his teammates. Regen never misses an opportunity to improve, approaching each session with a drive to get better. His commitment to using every moment productively makes him a standout athlete!
Cam Caplan ‘31 - Squash - Cam delivered an epic performance in his MSB JV match vs FCS, showcasing resilience and determination. After winning the first two games, Cam faced a tough challenge as his opponent leveled the score with two straight wins. Undeterred, he regrouped and powered through with a dominant 11-5 win in game 5, securing the match victory!
Owen Gary ‘30 - Basketball - Owen led the way for the MSB JV-B team with 18 points vs Haverford last Thursday, helping the team earn a huge victory. The Devils scored in the final seconds to defeat the Fords 32-31, and the team is now 4-0 on the season! Go Devils!
