Welcome from our Private High School Division Head

Upper School Assembly

Imagine this for a moment. You are sitting around a campfire, reflecting on the day’s events of hiking 12 miles and joking that it felt all uphill or recounting a moment when you struggled and the friends around you rallied to your side. Or, envision yourself huddled with your teammates as you prep for the final minutes of the game, strategize together at the FIRST Robotics world championship, or prepare for the launch of an app you designed to help overcome bias. Can you feel the excitement of pitching your invention, a Saturday night performance for Players, or finally solving a calculus problem you never thought you would solve?

At SCH, you will be challenged as an individual and as a leader. You will be encouraged to take risks, learn from failure, and meet the goals you set for yourself.

Matt Norcini, Head of Upper School

Led by our deeply committed and progressive faculty, Upper School students gain a thorough grounding in the core liberal arts and are encouraged to learn about the array of electives offered (for the full breadth of our academically vigorous curriculum, download our Upper School Course Catalogue). Our school is a dynamic environment, encouraging students to pursue their academic passions and, unknowingly, discover new ones. With over 40 student-led clubs and activities (ranging from Model UN and Eco Club to Robotics and Players), there are smaller communities within our larger community that offer connections and opportunities for friendship, curiosity, and grit.

SCH is a wonderful place where students are known, nurtured, and challenged. The message carved into the stone mantle of the fireplace in the Upper School Henry Library reads, ”Kindle your own fire.” I can confidently say that you will do that here and be forever changed. We hope to see you soon.

Best,

Matt Norcini
