UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD AND CULTURES WE LIVE IN
The social studies curriculum in Lower School for Girls is designed to take advantage of the curiosity, sociability, inquisitive spirit, and abundant energy of young girls. Students view history through two lenses: the history that took place where they live and the history and stories of faraway places. Social studies instruction is largely project based and inquiry driven and involves hands-on collaborative learning. Students are introduced to the key skills of engaging with a wide variety of traditional and new media sources, learning to write in many formats for different audiences as well as public presentation and speaking.
