Our Difference

The Sands Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership

Mission Statement

The Sands Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership embodies a bold and innovative vision that challenges the constraints of traditional education, preparing students to change the world through an entrepreneurial mindset—a mindset of curiosity and courageous creativity. Our passionate and progressive faculty guide students to recognize the intersections among various disciplines—where their traditional liberal arts coursework meets entrepreneurship, technology, and design. By building our students’ mental flexibility, we help them be comfortable with complexity and to be adaptable, empathetic, and resilient problem solvers. Equipped with this pioneering mindset, the graduates of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy become leaders: inquisitive, courageous, and ready to shape the future.

In grades 5-12, all students follow a CEL course of study that is integrated into the traditional curriculum. These classes teach technology, design, and entrepreneurship through hands-on, project-based lessons. Students interested in entrepreneurial experiences beyond the classroom may choose to participate in the CEL Venture Incubator, an after-school program for developing businesses and products under the supportive guidance of expert mentors.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 65% of today’s grade school kids will end up in a job that hasn’t been invented yet. The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership strives to develop students who will shape this uncertain future.
In 2012, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy launched the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) as an addendum to the rigorous core curriculum to prepare students for the ever-changing world ahead of them. The program was renamed in 2015 as The Priscilla G. Sands Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership to honor Dr. Sands’ 19-year tenure at Springside and SCH, her vision for the program, and her belief in creative collaboration, problem-based learning, and design thinking.
